FAQ

Choosing products

How do I know if a product will suit my skin type?

Within the description of each product, we list which skin types the product is suitable (or unsuitable) for. If there are no specific listing, it means it is suitable for all skin types. You can also refer to the skin type analysis to get a better idea. If you still have questions, you can drop us an email (info@bodybarskincare.com) with questions or to request for a phone consultation.

Can I use different skincare brands together?
Most definitely! It is more important that you find a product that suits your skin type rather than a particular brand. We do not see any reasons why you cannot or shouldn't mix and match. Do however try to understand your skin better and then choose according to your skin's needs. The only thing we would discourage is in directly mixing non-natural products with natural ones (example: spritzing a chemical based toner onto your certified organic moisturiser will destroy most active ingredients within the moisturiser thus rendering it inactive). Other than that, feel free to mix and match according to your skin type!

About natural and organic skincare

How do you choose the brands/products you stock?

First of all, we select based on our "good enough to eat policy".

Secondly, we look for brands who are dedicated to developing quality products at a reasonable price. By that we mean brands who rather pour their money into product development and quality ingredients rather than flashy advertising campaigns.

Thirdly, we select products or brands we would use ourselves! If it's not good enough for us, it's not good enough for you.

Lastly, we select products that are sellable. You might notice that we sometimes do not stock the entire range of a particular brand. This is likely to be intentional. We are single-mindedly focused on keeping costs low so that prices stay affordable. Hence we cannot afford to have products that won't achieve economies of scale. It's not always an easy decision because all the products from the brands we carry are lovely!

How do you decide which chemicals to avoid in the organic beauty products you stock?

We aim to follow guidance pusblished by Environmental Working Group and Ecocert. Where possible, we try to stock certified organic products or products that contains high amounts of certified organic ingredients.

What do you mean by your "good enough to eat policy" mean?

It means we avoid (at least) the following:

- no artificial coloring

- no artificial fragrance

- no harsh detergents

- no harmful preservatives

- no petrochemicals

- no animal cruelty

In reality, we look out for a lot more than that! In short, we would not use something which we would not put in our mouths.

We will be updating this section with a link to a glossary of ingredients that we trypically avoid. Please be patient with us for now.

How can I tell if a skincare product is organic or not?

There are lots of terms you will find on skincare and beauty product labels these days including 'natural', 'organic', 'hypo-allergenic' and 'pure'. These terms have no real meaning; a beauty product can be labelled natural if it contains only a tiny percentage of natural ingredients and the rest is made up of chemicals, likewise an organic skincare product may only contain a drop of organic essential oil and nothing else organic.

The only way to know what you are buying is to read the ingredients on the label to see how much is natural and how much is chemical. Also find out more about the brand's committment to organics and natural skincare - do they tell you if where an ingredient is derived from? Some ingredients are semi synthetic and can be derived from natural ingredients or from chemicals - yet they will have the same name on the ingredient label.

I have never used natural/organic skin care products before. What should I be expecting?

You should expect an adjustment period as with any skincare that you try for the first time. In the first few days, your skin would be trying to get used to the new regime. You should expect to see superficial improvements to skin tone and texture within 1-2 weeks. It will take about 6 weeks for skin to show the real benefits of your new skin care regime (after all, skin cells need about 4 weeks to completely renew!). If your skin type is sensitive, we would encourage you to do a patch test on your jawline or wrist before applying on face.

Why are there synthetic ingredients in some of the products you stock?

Some of the products we stock contain a small proportion of chemical or synthetic ingredients. For example, phenoxyethanol is an artificial preservative that is often used as a substitute to parabens. When used in low concentrations it is regarded to be non-toxic.

We always list ALL the ingredients of the products so that you can make an informed choice.

(We will be updating this section with a link to a glossary of ingredients with descriptions to help you understand better. Please be patient with us for now)

If you are looking to avoid chemicals or semi-synthetic ingredients completely then make sure you check out the ingredients list in the product information page.

Are natural/organic skincare hypo-allergenic?

Most people with sensitive skin have less reactions from organic products because they do not contain common sensitisers such as articifial fragrance or articial colour.

However natural ingredients, particularly essential oils, can trigger a reaction in some people. Look for products recommended for sensitive skins and/or are fragrance free.

About delivery

What happens if I don't receive my order?

If you do not receive your order within fourteen (14) business days from the time we arranged for delivery, please send us an email. We will process as necessary and arrange for a replacement delivery.

Why does it take longer than the estimated delivery times for my order to arrive?

The estimated delivery times are what they are, estimated at best. Actual delivery times depends on actual location and in some cases, dependent on the weather!

How much are the delivery charges?

Charges are based on location and weight. For orders up to 1kg, it is the same rate so to make the most out of the shipping charges, you might want to order more *wink*. Subsequently, the rates are applicable on a per kg basis.
